Piazza Duomo

This big and rectangular square has been rebuilt in 1865 according to design of Giuseppe Mengoni. Apart from the main sight of Milan (city’s Cathedral) at Piazza Duomo you can find so-called North and South Palaces (palazzo del Nord and palazzo del Sud).

Next to the North Palace (which you can easily recognize by its Arch of Triumph) located main city shop - Galleria Vittorio Emanuele.

In the center of Piazza stands statue of first Italian king Vittorio Emanuele which was completed in 1896 by sculptor Ercole Rosa. Its plinth is decorated by the barilefes with scenes of Italian independence war.
