The Fountain of Four Continents

The Fountain of Four Continents, which adorns main square in Trieste, originates from the middle of the 18 century. It was opened in the 1754 and picks out the idea of Trieste prosperity as free port. Fountain adorned by four statues which depict four known in 18 century continents. Initially the fountain was raised in front of the Town Hall but in 1938 it was relocated to the Orto Lapidario. In 1970 it was returned into its original place.
