Muggia

Muggia - is a small charming Italian city located on the border with Slovenia. I must admit that it was the first city in Italy which I visited.

Everywhere in Muggia you can see the Venetian vestiges. This is because the city was under the Venetian rule during the long period of own history. And Venetians built here a lot of buildings, fort, port and central square. Of course Muggia does not have a magnificence of Venice, it’s too small, but here you can easily dive into the atmosphere of Venetian history.

In the 20 century center of the city was renovated and turned into pedestrian zone. Muggia saved its middle ages walls, therefore to enter to the center you need to pass through the old city gate.

In the city center there is Cathedral which originates from the 14 century. Near you can find a lot of restaurants and try local dishes. I recommend you to try some fish which is delivered here every morning from the nearby port.

After a little rest and restoration of your strength it’s time to lift to the fort which dominates the city. You will be awarded by spectacular view to the Trieste which lies opposite the Muggia.

The fort was built in the 14 century on the place where before was situated pre-historic settlement of Isterian tribe. For now it’s abandoned but fort also was restored and now in good conditions.

And don’t forget to visit the local beach. It’s not sandy and shallow but in sunny day it will give you some kind of refreshment.
